The Cold Lake Health Centre located in Cold Lake North is a facility operated by the Aspen Regional Health Authority No. 7 whose head office is situated in Westlock, AB.
Opened in 1987, the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre is a combined facility with 24 acute care beds/24 hour Emergency and 30 long-term care beds.
The Acute Care Unit is situated on the third floor. It offers a combined service to obstetrical, cardiac, medical, surgical, pediatric and pallative patients. They also house a special care unit. The obstetrical section of this unit offers a family centered approach to maternity care. A short stay obstetrical program is in place. Those eligible can be discharged as early as 24 hours after delivery with support provided by a followup visit in the home and a help line. Also on the third floor are the operating rooms and the post-anesthetic recovery room.
The Healthcare Centre has an Emergency Department which is staffed by skilled Registered Nurses 24 hours per day. Emergency medical and outpatient service is provided by community Physicians, one of whom is “on call” on a rotation basis 24 hours per day. The Medical Staff consists of eight General Practitioners, an Obstetrician, a General Surgeon and a Radiologist. Six visiting specialists in the areas of radiology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, pediatrics, orthopedics and Internal Medicine also provide service to the community.
In the Radiology/Diagnostic area, Ultrasound Service is available, as well as the usual range of Laboratory Services including Electrocardiograms. The Health Centre also offers CAT Scans (Computerized Tomography) with a recently acquired unit. The Cold Lake Ambulance Service operates a fleet of four ambulances out of the hospital. Outpatient Dietetic Counselling is provided by the hospital’s Registered Dietician.
The Rehabilitation Department provides in-patient and outpatient Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Respiratory Technology Service. A Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is offered to those who suffer from chronic lung disease. The long-term Care Unit offers a Respite Program and a Day Program for seniors allowing their respective families a rest period of up to three weeks duration.
