Lifesaving Courses - Winter 2012

BRONZE CROSS

Course fee includes resource materials and certification    $150.00 Bronze Cross (18-20 hr.): Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.

Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Includes a timed 600 m swim. Bronze Cross is recognized as a lifeguarding certificate in Newfoundland and Labrador public swimming pools.

Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion certification (need not be current). Evaluation & certification: Current Lifesaving Instructor/Examiners evaluate items. The Lifesaving Society deems its certifications to be "current" for 24 months from the certification date.

Candidate recognition: Bronze Cross medal, Bronze Cross Award crest, certification card. Required reference material: Canadian Lifesaving Manual

CPR Update Workshop      9 – 4pm

Course fee includes resource materials and certification    $40.00 Required for all Lifesaving Society NLS Instructors, AEC Instructors, Lifesaving First Aid Instructors, Instructor Trainers and Branch Trainers, this event provides you with an opportunity to network, demonstrate required skills and receive important information related to Lifesaving Society programs and services.

Lifesaving Instructors and First Aid/CPR Instructors are encouraged to attend the Update workshop or to arrange training within their region.  Any instructors not updated by March 31, 2012 will not be able to deliver Lifesaving programs until they have updated.

Course fee includes resource materials and certification  $225.00 Lifesaving Instructors/ Examiners are trained to teach and evalutate the three Canadian Swim Patrol Program awards, as well as the Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and Distinction certifications.

Instructor/ Examiner candidates are trained in aspects of learning as well as various approaches required to teach water rescue, first aid, and related aquatic skills in the Canadian Lifesaving Program. Candidates also learn about long-range and short-term planning, class management, safety supervision and the principles of evaluation.

The Lifesaving Instructor/ Examiner certification is the prerequisite for all other Lifesaving Society instructor certifications. Certification in Newfoundland and Labrador includes Examination Standards Clinic, and Lifesaving CPR and AED Instructor/ Examiner certifications.   Certification is obtained by taking a Lifesaving Instructor course.

Prerequisites: 16 years old and Bronze Cross or higher. Recertification Note: Recertifying Lifesaving Instructor/ Examiner award automatically recertifies Lifesaving CPR Instructor/ Examiner and AED Instructor/Examiner awards, provided CPR/AED Skills Check List is included at time of recertification application.

How to register Registration for all courses at CFB Gander during February must be completed through the Newfoundland and Labrador LIFESAVING SOCIETY.  No registration fees will be accepted at CFB Gander at course commencement.

The Lifesaving Society accepts payment is accepted by personal cheque or money order through the mail or you may pay using VISA or MasterCard over the phone (709.576.1953) or download an order form and fax it to us with your credit card information at 709.738.1475.
