The 14 Wing Community Centre Skateboard Park is heavily used during the spring, summer and fall seasons. Each year, the Community Centre organizes two large competitions for our skateboarders and BMX users. These two annual events take place on Canada Day and during our Wing Welcome weekend, which is always in September. Both of these competitions are offered to youth who are 18 years of age or younger, and offered in partnership with Limitless Skate and Snow, which is located in the Greenwood Mall.
Last summer, thanks for a group of active park users, the 14 Wing Skate Park Club was formed, and nearly $500 was raised for improvements to the park. This Club is open to anyone between the ages of 9-18 but anyone under 9 can join the club, provided a parent or guardian (18 or older) is present when they visit the skate park. All park users (skateboards and BMX) can be members of the club, and becoming a member of the Club includes the following benefits; discounted entrance fees to competitions, portion of annual membership dues spent on upgrades to the park, and you get to help decide how to spend the allocated grant funding that we receive to provide upgrades to the park.
Our membership is only $15 a year, $12 for each additional child, and all of your registration dues go towards fundraising purposes to provide upgrades to the park. Membership forms are available at Limitless Skate and Snow, in the Greenwood Mall, and at the 14 Wing Community Centre. Please note that your completed form must be submitted at the Community Centre where you will be given a receipt for your payment.
We hope to once again meet as a club before the spring arrives, so please keep an eye out for article or information in the Aurora.
