Prevention, Support and Intervention (PSI) services

PSI Services at the H&R MFRC consists of a team of four registered social workers who provide short-term crisis support to CF members and their families.

The PSI Team promotes the well-being of CF members and military families by assisting them to address crisis situations such as; work-related separation, operational stress, challenges associated with parenting, relationship issues, separation and divorce, grief and loss, self-esteem, stress and burnout, and family violence. PSI can also provide assistance and/or referral regarding legal issues, mediation services, clinical therapy, addictions, mental and physical health issues, respite care for children, short-term emergency housing and short-term financial assistance.

PSI services are free to military families on a short-term basis and referral is not required for these services. PSI team members work collaboratively with individuals and families to identify issues to be addressed and develop an action plan, so desired and positive outcomes can be achieved. The PSI team provides short-term counselling and can also make referrals to appropriate services within the H&R MFRC and the greater CF community.

Individual and family well-being has a significant impact on military readiness. The PSI team is focused on strengthening the existing capacity of individuals and families through education and prevention services, assessment and referral, short-term intervention and crisis support, and collaboration with the greater H&R MFRC to develop and facilitate relevant programming for CF family members of all ages.

For more information on the programs and services offered by Prevention Support and Intervention services or to speak with a PSI staff member, please call our 24/7 Family Information & Referral Services Team (FIRST) at 902-427-7788.

PSI team members are available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8AM and 4PM and can be accessed directly at the Shearwater and Halifax locations. After regular working hours and on weekends, emergency services can be accessed through the Family Information and Referral Services Team or the Duty Chaplain at 902-427-7788 or 1-888-753-8827.
