ACTIVE LIVING / INJURY PREVENTION

Active Living and Injury Prevention focuses on providing guidelines to prevent overuse or repetitive strain, sports or exercise-related injuries or harm; encouraging CF members to maintain a lifestyle in which physical activity is valued and built in to daily life; and, reducing the risk of chronic illnesses such as osteoporosis. It is recognized that injury prevention strategies address a combination of environmental, social and individual factors.

  • To help sedentary individuals recognize the health benefits of daily active living.
  • To encourage individuals to develop a lifestyle that includes safe regular physical activity as part of a their daily routines.

  • To enhance the operational readiness of CF personnel by reducing the incidence / severity of injuries.

ADDICTIONS AWARENESS & PREVENTION

Addictions awareness and prevention focuses on healthy lifestyle choices to prevent the use of tobacco and other drugs, and reducing the risk of developing problems with alcohol and gambling. The CF supports efforts to prevent addictions and enhance health through the promotion of healthy choices and the development of supportive environmental conditions and organizational policies.

  • To prevent people from starting to smoke or use nicotine.
  • To support smokers who wish to quit smoking or using nicotine.
  • To protect CF members from second-hand smoke.

  • To increase awareness of signs of alcohol and other drug abuse.
  • To increase awareness of sources of help for those dealing with alcohol and other drug abuse.

Butt Out is designed to help participants overcome their addiction to nicotine by providing education and support in either a group or self-help format. This program focuses on smoking/chewing cessation medications; problem solving and coping strategies; relaxation and stress management; physical activity; minimizing weight gain; preparing for high-risk situations, and developing a plan for remaining tobacco-free.

NUTRITIONAL WELLNESS

Nutritional wellness includes healthy diet, weight management, nutrition for special needs (i.e., athletes, pregnant women), heart health and diabetes prevention. Nutritional wellness in the CF involves providing the knowledge and environment to support CF members in making nutritional choices appropriate to their stage of life, activity level and overall health.

Social wellness in the CF also recognizes the important role that communities and families play in the overall health and well-being of individuals.

BRT teaches couples how to communicate effectively, work as a team to solve problems, identify expectations and hidden issues, effectively manage conflicts, and preserve and enhance commitment, fun, friendship and sensuality.

stress.calm!

This interactive program offers an effective, skills-based approach to managing stress. Through self-awareness, behaviour change and skill building, participants will explore the link between stress and performance, examine stress within a military context, and learn about the stress response. Various relaxation and stress management techniques and strategies will be explored and practiced.
