The
CFB Halifax Curling Club, located at 6441 Hawk Terrace by the Halifax Military Community Centre, is one of the best curling facilities in Nova Scotia. The club has six sheets of ice, two fully functional and independent lounges
with bars, on-site catering, men's and ladies' locker rooms, washrooms on each level, ample parking and a reputation for a friendly, social and relaxed atmosphere.
The season starts in early October and runs until late April. The club offers competitive rates and flexible membership dues designed for both military and civilian employees and their dependants. Membership entitles you to curl and participate in club events for the full season. Members who are deployed or on temporary duty can apply for reduced membership, which allows them the opportunity to curl when they are in Halifax. The club also welcomes civilians as members.
Curling clinics are held in October. The clinics are designed to teach new curlers the basics of the game. Participants in the curling clinics are eligible to play in our opening bonspiel and pub night in October. Men's, ladies', mixed, open, senior and junior league play is offered at the club as are numerous funspiels throughout the season.
There are also programs designed specifically for the military community. They include the inter-part curling league, Cock of the Fleet and Cock of the Walk competitions, not to mention unit bonspiels. Each unit in the Halifax area is entitled to one curling bonspiel at no charge (ice only) per curling season. Bookings are on an as available basis once the club has opened for the season. This is an excellent opportunity to build morale and get some exercise at the same time. For the casual curler, there are ice rental opportunities from as little as one sheet for a couple of hours, right up to large military and/or corporate bonspiels spanning several days. Rates vary depending on the event and military affiliation. Bookings are available every day of the week on a first come, first served basis. Interested parties can arrange for rental equipment, such as brooms and sliders, at the club. This eliminates the need for personal investment should you be interested in curling only a few times a season.
With two bars and on-site catering, the club is an excellent venue for banquets, social functions, unit or section parties, Christmas gatherings, retirement mug-outs and wedding receptions. Catering can be as casual as the popular chili and chowder buffet to the full course turkey or roast beef dinners, complete with salad, dessert, coffee and wine. Having two lounges gives the club the ability to service multiple groups and events at the same time. It can be booked year round for special functions.
The CFB Halifax Curling Club is an excellent facility ready, willing and able to meet all your curling and social needs.
