A-PD-050-015/PT-001
The purpose of this is to ensure that all CF personnel possess elementary
swimming skills and related water safety knowledge so that they can respond
effectively to emergency situations that may arise when working in, on, under
or around water.

Water Safety Knowledge a. Be aware of the hazards in, on, under and around water and should know how to react when in trouble. b. Be aware of safe rescue measures and be able to perform reaching assists and rescue breathing (direct method of artificial respiration) |

Abandon Ship Emergencies a. Dressed in combat pants, combat shirts (sleeves rolled down) wearing a PFD
- jump, feet first, into deep water off a height mot less than 3 metres, holding lifejacket safely and securely
- surface, and
- swim, using any style of propulsion, a distance not less than 50 metres (no time limit)

Rudimentary Swimming Skills a. Dressed in combat pants and combat shirt (sleeves rolled down)
- execute a forward roll entry into water at least 2 metres deep,
- surface
- remain afloat for at least 2 minutes using any combination of floatation skills such as ?
b. treading water c. motionless float d. swimming in one place e. drown proofings and swim a distance of at least 20 metres using any style of propulsion |
