ENGLISH-LANGUAGE EDUCATION

Under Quebec Provincial law, children of Canadian Forces regular member personnel are eligible to attend English-language schools.

Members who wish to exercise this eligibility must notify their local school board of this intent. Form 74-8039 A for that purpose is available via Internet or at Valcartier Garrison at the Military Human Resources orderly room located in building 513 or at the school board. The Military Human Resources Officer or a commissioner of oaths must complete the form.

While rules vary from school board to school board, generally speaking, primary and secondary education in Quebec covers a period of 11 years. On graduating from high school, students must attend a CEGEP (Collège d’enseignement général et professionnel) before they can apply for university. There are several CEGEP’s and universities in the areas served by Valcartier Garrison.
