Pool Safety Guidelines

Pool

1. Children 7 & under must be within arms reach of a Parent/Guardian/Caregiver at all times unless they are wearing a lifejacket or have completed two lengths of front crawl in the main pool.
2. Children 8 & 9 years old must have a Parent/Guardian/Caregiver with them in the pool area at all times.
3. Children 10 & 11 years old must have a Parent/Guardian/Caregiver, in the facility (Building 90 & Lipsett Hall) that is responsible for the child’s supervision and have informed the lifeguard where they will be.
4. To swim in the deep end children under 12 must:
i. Complete two lengths of front crawl; or
ii. Wear a lifejacket at all times; or
iii. Be accompanied by a Parent/Guardian/Caregiver.
5. Children 2 & under must wear leak proof swim pants at all times.
6. All persons must shower before entering the water.
7. No food, candy or gum is permitted in the pool area.
8. Use of inappropriate language or behavior will not be permitted.
9. Persons with open sores or communicable diseases are not permitted to use the pool(s).

Hot Tub
1. A Parent/Guardian/Caregiver is to accompany children under 12. Respectful behavior is expected in the hot tub: Sitting quietly on the bench: no splashing, floating or swimming allowed.
2. Children must be 4 years and older to enter the hot tub. Children 3 and under are not permitted into the hot tub, although they may sit along the edge with their feet in the water if they are accompanied by a Parent/Guardian/Caregiver.
3. Toys and lifejackets are not allowed in the hot tub due to chlorine.
4. Pregnant women, or people suffering from heart / blood pressure conditions should consult a physician prior to entering the Hot Tub.
5. A time limit of 15 minutes is recommended in the Hot Tub for health reasons.

Ratios
Children 7 & under: 1:4 One Parent/Guardian/Caregiver in the pool to four children. Children between 8 and 11 years old: 1:8 One Parent/Guardian/Caregiver in the pool area to eight children.

A Caregiver is defined as someone 14 years of age or older.

The lifeguards have the right to allow or prevent access to any part of the pool or the pool in its entirety should there be any safety concerns regarding the patron’s use of the facility.
